Last night Holly told us that she heard that Kristina (who moved back to Arizona in August 2005) ran off and married her boyfriend. Sure hope it works out for them, but also wish that Kris would have called us herself. Details will be added as we obtain final confirmation.

Palm Pilot Operating System - end of an era

Based on news and trends it sure looks like the Palm OS is nearing the end of its life as we know it. The American company that helped start the Handheld Organizer is being sold to Access, INC a Tokyo, Japan Company. Apparently Palm wants to focus on Linux based Cell phones.

Not everyone wants an all in one device. The more we converge, the greater the impact when your one and only gadget gets stolen or damaged. While Palm is currently still selling PDA's that does leave Microsoft as the American company that is left with the market.

Progress has finally been made. The Tub, sink and toilet have been installed and are working ! Naturally the first thing some of the kids did is to use the tub and make a mess.

The celing light has been installed, yes we do need light bulbs but it does work. Time to install all the trim and baseboard.

Alan Greenspan of the Federal Reserve is finally stepping down. He decided to tell us one more time how the U.S. govt and citizens overspend and are failing to address this problem. At some point all those bills will come due, and the net result will be a serious drop in the standard of living for our kids. Not to mention the loss in our ability to impact world events.

Even the local newspaper, the Columbus Dispatch, had an article on the general topic.

DBA's job prospects

According to this Eweek article by Charles Garry

the DBA position will not fade it but will morph as new technlogies come along and systems get larger. According to to the Fed's there are 20,000 of us today and they think it will grow by 92.4 percent by 2012 over its 2002 levels.

Pennsic 34

Back from Pennsic 34. Marshalled all of the battles and earned my Oaken Ironman, helped with inspections and worked on siege engine auth. Frank ran with the blue team all war, no Oaken Ironman for him.

Holly seemed to have a good time, and found somewhere else to camp next year. Krissy finally got to relax.

I worked fairly hard around Camp Muir, it was just Pam and I most of the first week. Just not the same without all the other folks in camp. Here are some pictures of pennsic and other sca events.

Pams Known World Concert was good and we had plenty of firewood for the cool nights.

Pennsic 34 Prep

Pennsic preperation is well under way. I think Pam is ahead of me when it comes to things to do. She has done several outfits for Kris and assisted Holly as needed.

I have just finished one new sword and am repairing the helm. Still want to paint my shield and make a new sword. I did get some small portable fans and some of the other group materials. Hoping to find time to go to Seamus and get some archery bolts. Will be bringing my new crossbow and intend to get in some practice time. I want to get back into shooting.

If Ashley gets home in time she will go with Frank. Holly and Kris arrive on week two.

Talked to Craig, our neighbor, today about Buster. Wanted to let him know what happened before his kids asked questions. He did understand and related a few stories from his own life about pets. When folks lived on the farm they witnesed life and death all the time, us city folk only see it on the news.

Pets - end of an era

Going home to an empty house yesterday was hard. Actually found myself
starting to cry over the loss of our beloved family pet. So I
cleaned out her old food dish, and fed the cats. They have
been sneaking busters food for a long time and now it is time for them
to get started on their diet.

Decided that buster would be a good name for a family website. Am going
to register that as a domain name this year and find somewhere to host
it.
